Ending uncertainty surrounding Assembly election dates in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission on Sunday announced that the polls will be between November 17 and December 24 in the state. The polling will be divided into a mammoth seven phases.
The elections will be held in seven phases: November 17, 23 and 30 and December 7, 13, 17 and 24. The votes will be counted on December 28.
Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami, who had earlier favoured a wait-and-watch approach, has been advised by political parties and local officials that the situation in the state has improved.
The EC has also come around to the view that a winter election is manageable in the state.
